Frequently asked questions about our domains
How do I register domain names?
Simply search for the domain name that takes your fancy using the search box at the top of this page. Don’t worry if your preferred domain is already taken – just think of an alternative or take a look at one of the hundreds of new domain name extensions now available. The right domain is out there for you, just waiting to be snapped up. If you ever need help or want advice, don’t be shy - give us a call on +1 646 837 7020.
How much do domain names cost?
Cost depends on the type of domain name you want and how many years want to register it for. When you search for a domain name you can see the different prices listed beside each option, and the drop-down highlights the further savings you can make with our multi-year discounts. For example, you can get a .com domain for as little as $9.79 a year when registering for 10 years.
Full details of our domain pricing is available here.
Can I get discounts when buying domain names in bulk?
Absolutely, we have created a tiered pricing structure to ensure you can get the best value when buying domains in bulk. Find out what prices you can get and more information here.
How long does it take to register a domain name?
The purchase and registration process can be completed in seconds. In most cases your domain name will be ready to in the time it takes you to navigate back to your control panel to use it.
What’s the maximum period I can register a domain for?
The majority of domain extensions can be registered for a maximum of 10 years at a time (except .CO which is 5 years). You cannot own a domain “forever”, but you can effectively keep a domain name for as long as you need it by continuing to renew it.
What happens when my domain name expires?
Forgetting to renew a domain can be a disaster for a business, so we send out renewal reminders 90, 60, 30, 14 and 7 days before the expiry date. You can even opt-in to receive a free text message seven days before expiry. If your domain does expire you still have a chance to renew.
For .UK domains you get up to 90 days, and most other domains you have 30 days. But there can be additional fee to restore an expired domain which varies in cost based on the extension type. We’d always recommend renewing far in advance of your expiry date.
How do I transfer a domain name to LCN?
Transferring your domain name is easy and it usually takes no more than a few days to complete the entire process. Most domain extensions need to be unlocked by the existing registrar, which in-turn will create an auth code (EPP code). You then need to submit the domain and auth code to us and the process will begin.
UK domains are a bit different – all you need to do here is change the IPS tag on the domain to “LCN”. Again, this is something you’ll need to do with your existing registrar. That’s more or less all there is to it! You can find more info and get the process started on our transfers page, or contact us if you have any specific questions.
Can I transfer my domain away?
You certainly can – after all, it’s your domain name – but we reckon you’ll never want to. If you do choose to wave goodbye, we promise we won’t charge you a penny.
