History of LCN – the short version
Believe it or not we didn’t start out as web hosting and domain name gurus – back in 1999 our bag was web design.
One of the things that really bothered us in those days was the lack of quality hosting and domain name providers around to house our clients’ websites. Tired of expensive domain prices and servers with flaky uptime, we decided the best way to fix the problem was to do it ourselves, so LCN.com was born!
Since then we’ve gone from strength to strength and are proud to be one of the biggest organically grown web hosts and registrars in the UK. In fact, many of the small team from the beginning are still here, all these years later.
Helping small businesses get online is at the heart of everything we do here at LCN. Our goal is to cut the jargon and make creating and publishing a website a realistic prospect for everyone. We don’t think you should have to rely on a third-party designer just to have an online presence.
But getting your site online is only half the battle – the other challenge is making it a success! We give you a hand with this too, with hundreds of marketing guides to help you reach the right audience – all thrown in for free.
To help us help you, we’ve made customer service and support a top priority. So you can chat to our UK-based support team by phone and email seven days a week.
Making it easy for non-technical small businesses to be successful online
Here’s what just some of our customers say about our service…
If you want a service you can trust and where people really seem to care then LCN is the place for you. I have no idea how their prices compare but when you get such first rate service... (Continued)

Excellent telephone support with clarity, knowledge, patience and good manner. I don't usually respond to constant requests from companies for feedback but this deserves it.

We made a conscious effort to make sure our entire operation is located at a single site. Sure we could’ve cut costs by using buying cheap server space in other data centres or outsourcing our support desk, but we think having our staff and services located in the same building in the UK makes a huge difference to us and our customers. It’s one big happy home for LCN’s staff and servers alike.
At the heart of the LCN platform is our state-of-the-art data centre just off the A1(M) in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. It’s super resilient, with its own substation, advanced UPS system and backup generator – meaning your server could stay online days even without mains electricity on-site. It’s also watched round-the-clock by our on-site monitoring team, who can step in at a moment’s notice if anything goes awry.
Data centre talk can get a bit jargony and drawn out, so here are some bitesize facts you might want to know.
Mark Boost CEO
Without doubt the busiest guy in the office. As well as being CEO and founder of LCN, Mark also heads up our sister brands ServerChoice and Ai Networks. Despite this, he’s always approachable and maintains a hands-on approach with LCN and all our staff members.
Nick De Monte Technical Director
Another one that’s been with the company since our humble beginnings, Nick has seen it all. Coming from a design and UX background he knows what’s what. He’s in charge of our R&D and engineering teams and works on new products and features – nothing at LCN goes live without getting past Nick’s keen eye.
Barry Fenning Marketing Director
Barry joined the team in 2008 when we poached him from some company called Google. He’s a self-confessed workaholic, so as well as marketing LCN products and services he also makes sure we keep our customers at the forefront of everything we do.
Dan Sampson Customer Support Manager
This is the man responsible for moulding new recruits into tech support super-soldiers. Our support team deal with hundreds of calls and tickets every day, and Dan ensures every single customer query is answered to the very best of our ability.
Baxter Mascot / Junior Vice President
Baxter is Mark’s dog and the official company mascot. He spends his days patrolling the office, greeting visitors and generally getting all the attention a dog could ever dream of. Fun fact: He’s always on the hunt for bananas.
Want to join the team?
We’re always on the lookout for new talent to join our ranks. If you’re looking to work for a friendly, informal and innovative company, and are passionate about what you do, we’d love to hear from you.
