Frequently asked questions about our WordPress hosting
What is WordPress performance hosting?
How is it different from your other WordPress hosting packages?
Apart from being faster… it runs on a completely different platform. Our other WordPress packages run on our shared hosting platform. This means that users are all on the same server, sharing all available resources. This is fine for small sites that don’t get much traffic, but for bigger WordPress sites, especially business-critical and ecommerce websites, you may want the reassurance that comes with having your own dedicated resources.
WordPress performance runs on our cloud hosting platform, giving you all the reliability and power a dedicated hosting solution provides. You’ll get guaranteed RAM and processing power for use exclusively by your website(s).
How does a faster site help your website and business?
The first benefit of a faster site is obvious – everyone who uses the Internet wants to find what they’re looking for, fast. The quicker the better. Sluggish websites and slow load times can cause users to leave your site before it’s even loaded – this can negatively affect your website bounce rates.
Speeding up your web pages can keep users on your site and even help convert those users into paying customers – especially if you run an ecommerce site.
Speed is also a ranking factor for Google search! Google considers how fast a website loads when deciding what websites display near the top of the ranking pages. So a faster website gives you a much better chance of being seen by prospective customers.
How do you work out your load times?
As mentioned, our WordPress performance loads on average in 0.47 seconds. We got to this figure by testing our servers multiple times using a vanilla (untouched, standard version) of WordPress on the apache web server version of our WordPress Performance package. The Nginx option is even faster, at 0.40 seconds – you can choose whatever option suits you when setting up your hosting.
This is up to twice as fast our next comparable plan – our regular WordPress hosting packages, which on average, loads in 1.03 seconds.
Of course there are many variables to these load times, which is why we take an average result. Variables in real-life usage include the amount of traffic on a particular server at any one time, server resources used, and any custom themes or plugins installed.
What is a CDN?
CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a network of servers located in different locations across the world which combine to provide faster delivery of internet content.
Whenever you view a website, those website files are sitting on a server somewhere, so it stands to reason that if the web server is one side of the world, and you’re on another, there may be delay in displaying that data being sent back to your web browser (it’s a long way to travel).
A CDN solves this problem by hosting your content across a network of servers all over the globe.
So if you’re viewing an Australian-based website in the UK, the CDN will serve you content from the UK–based server on the network. This can significantly reduce latency and speed up your visitors browsing experience.
How does auto-scaling work?
Should your website receive a sudden spike in traffic or load, we automatically upscale your servers' available resources beyond the minimum specs when you need it. This ensures your sites' performance isn't compromised at the busiest times.
What are the minimum resources available for the package?
The WordPress Performance package operates with a guaranteed minimum of 1GB of RAM and a dual-core processor. However, during busy periods of high traffic on your site, our auto-scaling feature will scale-up beyond these specs to keep your website up and running fast.
What control panel do I get?
You’ll have access to our in-house custom built LCN control panel – this gives you all the control you’ll need to set up email and manage your database.
Do I get root access?
Root access is not possible with WordPress performance. The same goes for SSH. If you need root / superuser access for your hosting requirements, we recommend our Cloud hosting platform.
How can I request a migration?
Once you’ve bought your WordPress performance you can easily request a migration from your LCN account. Just look for your WordPress performance hosting package in your account, then click the “Request site migration” link. Check out this video guide if you get stuck.
How does the money-back guarantee work?
This couldn’t be simpler. Just contact us within the first 30 days of buying WordPress performance, and we’ll cancel your services and refund your money – no stress. If you wish us to re-migrate your site back to your old host, please let us know when you request your refund.
Whilst WordPress performance runs on our cloud platform, we wanted to keep things simple and offer our user-friendly control panel in favour of the likes of cPanel and Plesk. If you require cPanel or Plesk we recommend you look at our Cloud hosting options.
