How to backup and restore your website using the LCN backup utility

Customers using our Apache hosting packages can backup and restore their websites using the LCN Apache Backup utility. Taking regular backups is super-important for any website owner and this tool (once activated) will ensure you have access to regular backups of your website and databases.  

Let’s get started… 

Activating your Backups 

  1. Log in to your LCN account and move to your Control Panel
  1. Find the domain you would like to add your backup to. 
  1. Click Activate, by Apache Backup
  1. Complete the checkout process. 

That’s it! You’ve successfully activated your backups. 

Restoring your website 

  1. Log in to your LCN account and head to your Control Panel
  1. Click on the domain you wish to restore you website for. 
  1. Click Hosting Settings, followed by Backups
  1. You will now see a full list of your backups and the dates and times each one was taken. Click on the backup folder you would like to restore from. 
  1. You can now navigate your backup in the same way you would navigate your site’s files. You will likely find your website files inside the web folder. 
  1. To restore your website files tick the boxes to the right of the files you would like to restore. 
  1. Once you are happy with your selection click Restore

That’s it! You’ve successfully started a restore your website files. 

Once the files have been retrieved, they will be placed within your webspace in a folder called restored

Please Note: If you have selected a large number of files to restore, or a whole folder, the system will need time to complete the restore. 

You can now access these files via FTP or your File Manager and move them to where you need them. 

Downloading your backup files 

If you would like to download and save files from your backups to your local machine you can. You will then be able to store the files to your own device a USB or external hard drive or your favourite cloud storage system.  

You can do this with the following steps… 

  1. Log in to your LCN account and head to your Control Panel
  1. Next click on the domain you wish to restore. 
  1. Click Hosting Settings, followed by Backups
  1. You will now see a full list of your backups and the dates and times each one was taken. Click on the backup folder you would like to download from. 
  1. Navigate to the file or folder you would like to download and click the Orange down arrow. This will download that file or folder to your machine. 

That’s it! You have now downloaded your backup. 

Obtaining a Database backup 

If you require a back up your database this is also possible. To obtain a backup of your database you will need to… 

  1. Log in to your LCN account and head to your Control Panel
  1. Click on the domain you wish to restore. 
  1. Then click Hosting Settings, followed by Backups
  1. Click MySQL on the left. 
  1. Using the drop-down options you can now choose the backup you desire. 
  1. When you are happy with your choice click Proceed 
  1. The system will then download your backup and place it into a restored folder within your FTP and File Manager. 

That’s it! You now have a backup of your database which you can down load directly from your File Manager or FTP.
