How to upload files to your website with FTP

To upload your website you need to create a connection between your computer and your hosting package. You can do this with an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. If you are using PC, we recommend a popular free FTP program called Filezilla which you can download for free for both PC and Mac. For a step by step guide for your FTP program, simply click the link for it below: PC Users - Filezilla Mac Users - Filezilla Filezilla Download, install and then run the Filezilla FTP program.Please note:When installing any piece of software, please follow the installation instructions carefully. Some software may attempt to install tool-bars and other software that you might not want. In the Quickconnect bar at the top, enter upload.lcn.com in the Host field. In the Username field enter your FTP username. In the Password field enter your FTP password. Note: You can find your FTP username and change your FTP password by logging into your LCN Account. Click the Hosting icon, click Manage for your hosting and going to the FTP Details sections of that page. You can leave the Port field blank, it will default to 21. Click Quickconnect. In the Remote Site field on the right, enter /www.domain.com/web (replace domain.com with your own domain) and hit enter. This will put you in the right location on our server to start uploading your website files. There are 2 panels in the centre of Filezilla, the left hand panel represents the files on your computer, the right hand panel represents the files on our server. To upload a file or folder select it in the left hand panel and drag it over to the right hand panel. If there is no index file the default holding page will be displayed when you visit your website. You can also connect with FTP using your LCN account username and password. If you have multiple hosting accounts, you will be able to access them all in the remote site panel within your chosen program. If you have problems connecting please check that your firewall, anti-virus or ISP (Internet Service Provider) aren't blocking port 21 or the FTP program.

It's easy to connect Serif WebPlus to your hosting plan with LCN and below is a step by step guide on how to do this: If you have yet to download the software itself, navigate to the Bonus Features section of your account and click redeem offer. When you have your website ready to upload, click on the Publish site option the top tool bar. You can also get to this menu by pressing Ctrl + f5. Next, choose the Accounts button and a pop up menu will ask you for your account details. You need to fill out the account details which are specific to your hosting package. If you are unsure of these, they can be found under the Hosting > Manage site option in your LCN.com account. Account name: We recommend you use your domain name here FTP address: upload.lcn.com Port number: The default is set to 21 Folder: www.yourdomain.com/web Username: Your FTP username Password: Your FTP Password Passive Mode: This is ticked by default Website URL: www.yourdomain.com Once you have added the requested details, click OK. You will then need to confirm your details by choosing Update Account. The next screen will allow you to choose which pages you wish to publish. If it's your first time uploading the site, ensure that Publish All Pages is selected. This will then upload the website to your hosting package and once completed, this will be visible at your domain name. Please be advised that this can take up to 10 minutes depending on the size of your website and your internet connection. Once the upload is complete, choose Close. You will then get the option to view your website on the web. Choose the browser you wish to use and then click View this URL ->. Once you have viewed the website, click Close. That's it! Your website is now on the world wide web for people to view.

How to manage files and FTP accounts on Cloud hosting using cPanel

If you are a customer on a LCN Web hosting plan, this guide will provide instructions for using FTP. Creating and Managing FTP Accounts Log in to your WHM control panel. Locate and select the ‘Account Information’ heading on the left hand side and select the ‘List Accounts’ function. Click the cPanel logo to the right hand side of the domain you want to use. Locate the ‘files’ heading. Select the icon for ‘FTP accounts’, you can then add an FTP account by completing the following fields: Login: Username for the FTP account. Password: FTP account password. Confirm Password: Re-enter the password to confirm. Directory: (Optional) Enter to restrict FTP access to a specific folder path. Quota: Enter to set a disk quota for the FTP account. Select ‘Create FTP Account’. This will then add your FTP account to a list of all the current active accounts for this domain. Here you can change the password, change the quota, delete the account or find out an FTP client’s configuration settings. FTP client connection settings The following settings can be used when connecting using an FTP client application: Hostname: Enter your server IP, or domain name pointing to the server. Username: Server admin, or FTP account username. Password: Server admin or FTP account password. Port: 21 Using the File Manager in cPanel Select the ‘file manager’ option for a domain in cPanel under the ‘files’ heading to open the file manager. This will then allow you to view all files and directories for your site. The root folder for web content uploaded for your domain is: public_html To upload files to a directory navigate to the directory and select the ‘upload’ from the file manager menu. This will open a new tab and where you can drag and drop files from another window, or use the ‘Select File’ function to locate them. The file manager also includes the facility to compress files/folders, or extract a compressed/archive file uploaded to the server.

How to set up separate FTP accounts

An FTP account allows you to manage your website files on your hosting space with us. If you want to give a colleague or web designer access to your web files, but don't want to give them your LCN account username and password, you can create a separate FTP account for them. Log in to your LCN.com account. Click the Hosting icon, then click Manage Site for the hosting you want to add an FTP account to. Click FTP Accounts from the Current Hosting menu on the left. Click the Add FTP Account button. In the FTP Username field enter a prefix for your new FTP user. All FTP usernames will end in your domain name with the dots replaced e.g. username_domain_com. In the FTP Password enter a password and confirm it. Click the Add FTP Account button.

How to change file permissions via FTP

In the pop up window you can tick the individual file attributes or enter a numeric value e.g. 755, click OK. Note Please be cautious when changing file permissions. How to show hidden files in FTP

Some FTP programs don't show hidden files such as .htaccess files by default. In Filezilla, a popular FTP program which you can download for free, you view hidden files as follows: Open the Filezilla FTP program. From the menu bar at the top of the screen select Server. Select Force showing hidden files. In the Remote Site panel on the right, you should now see all of your files including any hidden ones. Note Files are normally hidden for a reason and editing them can break things. Please be sure you know which files you are editing and if unsure, seek advise from a web developer.

How to Move Your WordPress Website
