How to set up web forwarding
Applies to: Domain Names, Email Hosting
Web forwarding can be used to point your domain name to another website hosted with us, or elsewhere.
Web forwarding is available on un-hosted domains and domains with Email Hosting only.
To find the Web Forwarding settings follow these instructions:
- Select Domains from the Dashboard
- Click Manage next to the required domain name
- Click Web Fowarding in the left hand menu
You can enter the destination address in the field provided. You will have 3 options for forwarding – Masked or Re-direct 301/302.
Masked
This method uses frames to keep your domain name in a visitor's address bar. You can add your own page title and meta tags to the frameset HTML with masked forwarding.
Permanent Re-direct (301)
Most suitable for permanent changes to where a site is eg. moving an existing site to another URL. We will re-direct users to the destination address. The destination address will be displayed in a visitor's address bar.
Temporary Re-direct (302)
Most suitable for temporary changes, such as holding pages. We will re-direct users to the destination address. The destination address will be displayed in a visitor's address bar.
There are also options for Masked forwarding, which can be helpful for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). This enables you to add what are known as Meta Tags to your web forwarding. These are keywords which help your domain name come up in Internet searches. Simply enter a title for the tag and then enter your keywords under Meta Tag Content.
