Why isn't my domain name listed in any search engines?
Your domain will not automatically appear in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask Jeeves etc. without being submitted for categorisation/addition to each search engines listings. You should not attempt to do this before you have a website under your domain. The search engines run programs called spiders which come along to your website and crawl over every page. The spiders aim is to give your site a relevancy score in relation to its content and/or categorise it. If you do not have any pages for the spider to look at then you will not get a very good score. Because of this LCN do not operate automatic search engine submission.
Promoting Your Site
There are many techniques to optimise your web pages for the search engines. A good starting point is the page title and meta tags. http://www.search.com/guides/submit/index.html is just one site which provides information about how to construct meta tags to aid your search engine positioning.
Unfortunately meta tags are not a guarantee to get your site listed highly or even at all. Various search engines employ different ways of positioning you higher in the list, these range from your meta tags but can also include how many external links your site has, how much traffic your site is generating etc. And they keep their ranking algorithms very secret so that they are not abused.
The only sure fire way to make sure that someone sees your domain listed when they search it is to pay for a listing under different keywords. For example a sponsored link so that when someone types a key word into a search engine then your site would be near the top if not at the top. Unfortunately we are unable to go into more detail than this as this faq would become a thesis as there is so much information on the web.
