One letter domain names go mobile

DotMobi, the official global registry for the .mobi top level domain, have announced the decision to release one and two character domain names (i.e. a.mobi, 1.mobi, aa.mobi, etc).
As dotMobi noted, short domain names are more important for .mobi domains than many other TLDs:
“Single character domains are highly sought after in the domain world and work particularly well with the .mobi TLD since domain addresses requiring shorter keystrokes on handsets are extremely desirable.”
However, those wishing to cash in on these highly lucrative domain names will be disappointed to learn there will be a request for proposal process (RFP) rather than an auction. The RFP is seen industry wide as a smart move for the long term viability of .mobi, ensuring these domains are used as real web sites rather than just held for resale.
dotMOBI also described the how the proposed service will be offered on their recent blog post:
“Evaluation criteria will take into account the applicant’s business and technical capabilities, experience in the mobile market, marketing expertise, business plan and the manner and purposes for which the proposed sites would be operated.”
Although the one and two character .mobi domain names are only available on a RFP basis through dotMOBI you can still register your own .mobi domain at great prices with LCN.com and get your business ready to go mobile
