Nominet launches UK awards for internet innovation
Nominet has announced the launch of its 2010 Internet Awards, formerly known as the Best Practice Challenge. The registry firm, which manages more than eight million .uk URLs, is looking for submissions from individuals and organisations in the public, private and charity sectors in five areas: getting people online; making the internet safer; opening the world of knowledge; empowering young people and citizens; and nurturing powerful local partnerships.
“Over the last three years we have seen some great examples of inventive grassroots projects that are using the internet to make a real difference to society,” said Lesley Cowley, chief executive of Nominet. Read full article here
Celebrating 25 years of .com
Verisign plans to capitalise on the 25th anniversary of the .com domain, which has been the hallmark of the commercial internet. The first “dot com” name was registered by Symbolics in March 1985. Verisign says its celebrations will start with an event in Washington, DC on 16 March, where it will announce four $75,000 research grants. Later, there will a gala in San Francisco to highlight the top 25 people and companies who have made “the most notable impact” on the net. Read full article here
Domain Parking Coming to .Tel
.Tel registry Telnic announced that .tel domain name owners will soon by able to integrate Google Adsense into their domain names. That means they’ll be able to add Google’s pay-per-click ads to their .tel domain names through the .tel management interface. Read full article here
