Recent domain name news from the last week:
Nominet appoints itself web policeman
Nominet has announced it will suspend the domain name of any .uk website suspected of being involved in criminal activity.
Registrars who receive “credible reports” about their domain names can now use a Nominet tool that will immediately “lock” it while they investigate the website. The lock means suspect websites will still be available if the content itself is not taken down, but only by typing in the IP address. Read full article here
Apple Doesn’t Own A Single iPad Related Domain Name
Perhaps Apple was just being extremely careful not to draw any attention to the widely speculated name of its new multimedia device prior to this morning’s announcement, but one simply cannot overlook the fact that the company doesn’t have ownership over any domain names related to ‘iPad’. For now, that is.
Apple does not own iPad.com, as you may have noticed. Others have, in any case, and some even suggest that the person who registered the domain name (one Martine Bejasa) sell it to the Cupertino company to become an instant millionaire. Read full article here
