Growing your business in an economic decline
Every day I turn on the radio, TV or read the news and all the headlines are credit crunch related. If it’s not the stock markets crashing, it’s the pound weakening or another bank being bailed out.
Reading the news is becoming quite tiresome and in many respects has a negative effect on many of us, especially our spending patterns. Clearly the banks have got it wrong and we are now all paying the price for their greed and mismanagement. However, it seems the media are heightening the issue by their constant pessimistic coverage, almost forcing us into a recession.
The latest figures from the national statistics show that the economy shrank by 0.5% in the third quarter of this year. This was the first quarter of negative growth in 16 years. There needs to be two consecutive quarters of negative growth before technically we are in recession, but the latest figures prove that we may be on the brink.
I myself am trying to be as positive as I can be amongst such relentless negativity and although I may have cut back slightly on my personal spending habits, in business we certainly haven’t. We may be more focused on not needlessly wasting money and reducing some of our overheads, but in many areas we are actually increasing our expenditure.
Why?…you may ask. Well I see it as essential during a downturn that we work even harder to generate new business and improve further on our levels of service. I believe that if we take our foot off the accelerator, we are more likely to perform badly during this period of economic decline. Instead we are doing more and not less and over the coming months we will be announcing some exciting new partnerships, which will greatly benefit our customers and further improve our product offerings. In addition we will shortly be announcing extended telephone support hours and for the first time will be offering weekend telephone support too. Next month also sees the unveiling of our brand new state of the art data centre, which we are all particularly excited about.
Hopefully the soon to be announced partnerships will help aid the growth of our customer’s websites, but there are still lots of other things that can be done at relatively little or no cost. Try to indentify the key areas that generate your business revenue and really focus on these. A good example would be to focus your attention around driving more traffic to your website, thus helping to increase sales or enquiries. Perhaps try emailing all of your existing clients with details of any new products or special offers you are running.
Also, don’t forget to make sure you take advantage of the free search engine marketing vouchers we provide with all hosting packages. Another thing you may want to consider is one of our HyperSubmit packages, which are relatively cheap when compared to traditional marketing methods and will help increase your website’s traffic considerably.
Hopefully like myself you will remain positive throughout this economic slow down and will use any negativity to fuel even more focus towards your business ambitions.
