Tending to your domain name

By Nick De Monte - Business Development Director

Nominet, the organisation responsible for maintaining the .UK domain extension, announced the launch of its www.keepyour.co.uk renewals campaign today. The main focus of the campaign is to raise renewal rates by highlighting the potential pitfalls of not retaining your domain and increase awareness of the renewals process with domain owners.

renew you .UK domain name

We all know how easy it is to forget dates that are far in the future; birthdays, anniversary’s (at your peril), appointments, and how forgetting these dates can lead to various levels of disruption. Domain name renewals fall under this umbrella and in some cases the levels of disruption caused by not renewing your domain in time can be severe. If you use your domain name for your business the thought of loosing your domain is a scary one. It may be surprising then to learn that forgetting to renew your domain happens to even the most high profile of companies. Most recently the Airline Emirates forgot to renew emirates.com and their website subsequently went offline and most famously Microsoft neglected to renew hotmail.co.uk back in 2003.

LCN make every effort ensure you know when your domain names are due for renewal. We start sending you renewal email notices to your account email address 60 days before they expire, and if you have signed up for the SMS renewal reminder, we’ll send a text message to your phone if you still haven’t renewed a week before expiry.

Managing you renewals with LCN is easy, simply login to your account and click on the Renewals link, this will give you a list of all the renewal due within 60 days.

If you have a global domain names (e.g. .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .me) that you definitely don’t want to lose then maybe you should consider extending the registration period to 10 years.

It’s great to see Nominet being proactive and trying to raise awareness of the .UK renewal process, where can we get the t-shirt and mug to show our support of .UK lovin?
