The humble office plant

Plants have many benefits they can remove common toxins from indoor environments and add oxygen to stale air, create a refuge from everyday stresses and not only that they can brighten up any office!

Choosing a plant is not as easy as you may think it’s critical to choose plants that can thrive in the challenging office environment.

Here are some tips about how to choose the perfect plant for you and your office.

Who turned out the lights?

A plant that needs constant sunlight will not be happy stuck in a windowless copy room, but figure out where you can put plants in your office and determine how much natural sunlight they’ll get on average. If you do not have much natural sunlight, don’t despair there are many low light (shade loving) plants will do fine in most office.

It’s not what you can do for the plant, but what the plant can do for you!

Plant can have many purposes if you mainly want to brighten a space, you will probably want a flowering plant or one with colourful, variegated leaves. If you’re more health conscious you could be looking to remove as much carbon dioxide–or add as much oxygen–as possible, if this is the case you should look for a green plant with a lot of leaf area.

Will you love your plant?

You need to be honest about how much time you can spend looking after your plant. Some plants require more maintenance than others, (like many orchids and bonsai, they have very specific light, humidity, and temperature needs) and sometimes it can be difficult to find time in the workday to water or prune them.

There are a vast number of species of office/indoor plant out there, with a little thought it’s easy to find your ideal leafy companion!
