What's my name again?

How user friendly and easy to remember is your domain name? If customers have found it once will they remember your name and be able to navigate back?br>
When registering a domain name you must ensure your name is something that is easy to remember to ensure your customers can find you when they need you. The easiest way to do this is use your company name in full. If you are known by numerous names then ensure they are all registered as domain names and pointing back to the main site to ensure you don't miss out on business. You may feel that registering all the options is expensive but from only £3.75 per annum it really is the most cost effective way to avoid missing out on orders. Weigh up the costs of registration against the value of a missed order/customer. Invest in the future now.

Example: Claradon Recruitment Agency, you could register www.CRA.co.uk or www.Claradonrecruitment.co.uk or www.Claradon-RecruitmentAgency.co.uk or ClaradonJobs.co.uk the possibilities are endless!br>
Domain names can be a maximum of 67 characters. By using shorter options or initial letters you could be cutting out some of your customers who don't know these.
¼br> Hard to spell names - register all possibilities to ensure your customers get to your site.

Also be sure to use your domain name at every opportunity. On the bottom of all emails, business cards, headed paper - mention it on every possible occasion. It's never too late to increase or change your options with our forwarding service you can make a seamless change. For more information or to register your domain on line now visit www.lcn.com

SPAM ALERT!

In the July addition of the LCNews we reported a SPAM email which we believed could contain a virus. We have included this article again the month as LCN Feedback are still receiving concerned emails regarding an email being sent with one of the following statements in the subject box:

  • "your email accounts are about to be closed down"
  • " your account is going to be suspended"
  • " update your user profile records"
  • "your password has been successfully updated"
  • "Email account suspension"
  • "Security Measures"
  • "*DETECTED* Online user violation"
  • "Important notification"

Each email has an attached .zip file. We would like to warn all our customers that this is SPAM and please do not open or run the attached .zip file as we fear it maybe a VIRUS as it holds hidden files.

The email comes predominantly from: webmaster, postmaster, sales, info, service or customerservices @yourdomainname, i.e. webmaster@joebloggs.co.uk.

We would like to inform you that any emails relating to your account, domains, hosting or dedicated servers will never have any .zip files attached. So if the email you receive has a .zip file attachment then it is not from us.

If you receive any of these SPAM emails please delete them immediately. Please also note that these emails do not mean that your account has been hacked, they are masking their e-mail address to make it appear like it is from your domain name.

We would like to stress that these SPAMMERS are not getting your personal information from our site or any other department of LCN, and these emails are not just isolated to LCN customers. It appears that they are targeting the whole internet registry.

If you are still concerned or receive an email you are not sure about please do not hesitate to contact our Support Team on 0870 744 0823 who will be happy to help and advise you.

Offline shops are missing out!!

Britain's local businesses are missing out on a share of £1.5bn by not selling their products online, a new study reveals.

A survey of shoppers by online search directory Touch Local shows over two thirds would like to buy products from their local shops but the convenience of shopping online is still preferred. Online sales are estimated at £1.5bn this year, so too many firms will be missing out, Touch Local claims.

Its poll uncovered strong sentiment toward buying local. Nearly half of shoppers favour their local shops over superstores, but research shows only 31 per cent of local shops are trading online. Of these, only six per cent have website's with payment facilities.

Today's hectic lifestyle does not make it easy to pop to the local shops so we opt to surf the net instead. I have found myself also following this trend adding more and more online stores to my favourites, top 5 being:

www.avalonsgifts.co.uk
www.firebox.co.uk
www.blahdvd.com
www.ebay.co.uk
www.amazon.co.uk

With 69 per cent of UK local businesses still not trading online, customers have no choice but to buy from chain stores, Touch Local says.

“The people of Britain clearly want to shop locally - and we are all for helping boost local economy and supporting local traders - but we are pushed for time,” said Tony Piedade, commercial director for Touch Local.

He said most companies are afraid to go online, but it is not as scary as you think, the process is very easy:

1. Register you www.name
2. Buy hosting (space on the web)
3. Build your website, either by yourself or by a website design company
4. Advertise your site and start trading
5. Start counting the profits!

So what are you waiting for! For more information on registering a domain, buying hosting, building your website, and advertising it click on the links or visit www.lcn.com today.

Were your ancestors rich?

People struggling to make ends meet could have their ancestors to blame for blowing the family fortune, according to the family history building website Genes Reunited. The Friends Reunited's spin-off site suggests that the odds are as high as 20 per cent that your ancestors were very much better off than you are now.

More than 1000 Genes Reunited members contributed to the findings. They were asked to reveal whether they had tracked down relations who were significantly better or worse off than they are now (allowing for inflation!) and whether their social status seems to have gone up or down.

Martine Parnell, Head of Genes Reunited, said "we wanted to find out whether people who are wealthy now come from a long line of high achievers and also whether being less well off runs in the family. The chances of finding a rich relation are pretty high - but in fact, most of us have gone up in the world, both financially and socially". So 40 per cent of those surveyed said they were social climbers and another 40 per cent said the family fortunes seemed to have stayed very much the same.

With Genes Reunited you can discover your ancestors, explore your family history, build your family tree and contact lost relations and it's FREE to search and FREE to join. Now i wonder was Great Uncle Walter rolling in it.....?
