How do you increase the number of qualified visitors to your website?

No one is visiting my website!

After investing substantial resources into developing your website into an effective sales and marketing tool for your business, you suddenly find that no one knows about your site and you're not getting the traffic that you first expected.

How do you increase the number of targeted, qualified visitors to your website that are interested in the products or services that you are selling?

Search engine marketing

Search engines currently account for over 85% of all new visitors to a website, and whilst you may have heard this statistic before, what you may not know is that 33% of all search engine users believe that the top positioned website is the number one brand within that industry.

If we consider that over 85% of new visitors to a website come from search engines, and that over 360 million searches take place every day across the world, this translates into a huge potential market.

LCN has partnered with online business communications agency The Comunica Group who have a dedicated Search Engine Marketing (SEM) team that will work with you on a long-term strategy to increase the number of qualified leads to your website. Their expertise in keyword ranking and search engine optimisation will ensure that your website will enjoy higher positioning on search engines including Yahoo, Google, MSN and a lot more.

So what is Search Engine Marketing?

Search Engine Marketing is made up of two primary disciplines:

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
The function of SEO is to improve a websites position within the organic search results (the normal search results) for specific search terms, and increase the overall amount of traffic from crawler-based search engines like Google.

Pay-per-click (PPC)
PPC involves the effective management of keyword-targeted advertising campaigns through one or more PPC service providers such as Google Adwords, or Overture. These are the "Sponsored Listings" boxes typically found on the side of search engine results.

The Comunica Group has developed a complete Search Engine Marketing process to help our clients achieve the maximum return on their online marketing investment.

Your Admin Section Explained

In addition to being able to update your profile you can also perform the following tasks for each domain name:-

Set up email forwarding

The e-mail forwarding service allows you to forward e-mails sent to 'someone@yourdomain.com' onto an existing e-mail account. so that you may collect them. For example you may have a Hotmail account e.g. 'your_name@hotmail.com'. Any email messages that are sent to 'someone@yourdomain.com' can be automatically redirected to your existing Hotmail address.
There are two types of e-mail forwarder that are explained below:

Alias E-mail Forwarder

An Alias E-mail Forwarder allows you to forward a specific email addresses at your domain name e.g. 'info@yourdomain.com' to the destination email address specified.info@yourdomain.com -----> you@existing email.com

Catchall E-mail Forwarder

A Catchall E-mail Forwarder will forward all the e-mails sent to your domain, that do not match one of the other 'Alias E-mail Forwarders' to the destination email address specified. By default we set the Catchall E-mail Forwarder as the e-mail address in your account profile.sales@yourdomain.com support@yourdomain.com -----> you@existingemail.com anything@yourdomain.com

Add hosting to your domain

Web hosting is an allocated amount of disk space for your domain name on a computer that serves the information stored on it to the internet. It is where all the files that make up your web site can be found. Hosting removes the need of you having to provide and maintain expensive and complicated servers.

Having your website hosted offers many benefits over free space offered by Internet Service Providers:

- It gives you disk space on our servers which you can use to upload your site to:
- Support for more advanced features such as CGI,ASP,Perl etc.- You can use your domain name as your web address instead of the long and often hard to remember ISP/free space one.
- You can use your domain to send & receive emails.
- You are not sharing the servers resources with 1000's of other users.
- Eliminates the need for redirection altogether.

Unix hosting plans offer access to:

MySql database, PHP, Perl, CGI, FTP access, Microsoft Frontpage 2000 extensions

NT hosting plans offer access to:

FTP access, Microsoft Access database, ASP, CGI

Take a look at our hosting plans to decide which plan is most suited to your needs.

View invoices

LCN provide VAT invoices for all purchases. You can view/print invoices for your orders online via the admin area using the drop down menu.

Modify nameservers/release domain name

LCN do not charge to transfer domain names to other ISPs or Hosts.
All domains can be transferred/re-delegated free of charge using the admin section. You will find step by step instructions for modifying nameservers and releasing to a different IPS tag (.UK only).

The altered nameserver or IPS Tag details for .UK domains will appear in the WhoIs database once it re-loads (approx. 24hrs). The .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ nameservers updates will also appear in the WhoIs after 24hrs but may take up to 48hrs to resolve fully.

If you wish to fully transfer generic Top Level Domains (gTLD - .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ) to a different registrar, you need to post or fax to LCN (+44 (0)870 7440824) on your headed paper requesting the registrar change. You must include the domain name(s) you wish to transfer, the receiving registrar, your name, your LCN account username/password, your signature and your contact details.

Five days after receipt of this letter/fax we will open a time window of 10 days within which the receiving registrar may submit their transfer request. Requests outside of this time window will fail.

Please note: domain names must have been registered for at least 60 days before they can be transferred. Domain names that have expired will not be transferred until the renewal fee has been paid.

Generate a gift certificate

Currently none of the domain name registries send out a paper based certificate providing confirmation of registration. If you are registering a domain name as a gift for someone you may want to give them something tangible such as a certificate which confirms the registration and the registrant.

For this reason LCN has created a printable PDF Domain Name Registration Gift Certificate. To view/print the certificate you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader please click the 'Get Acrobat Reader' logo. This will allow you to download it from the Adobe website.

Is your boss monitoring your e-mail?

According to study on electronic monitoring and surveillance released by the American Management Association and the ePolicy Institute. If you work for a U.S. company, then there is a good chance you are being watched, and you may get fired for how you use your computer or office phone.

The report found that about a quarter of employers have fired workers for misusing the Internet; another 25 percent have terminated employees for e-mail misuse; and 6 percent have fired employees for misusing office telephones, according to the report.

" Concern over litigation and the role electronic evidence plays in lawsuits and regulatory investigations has spurred more employers to implement electronic technology policies," Nancy Flynn, executive director of the ePolicy Institute, said in a statement.

The survey, which involved 526 U.S. companies, found that 5 percent use GPS technology to monitor cell phones and 8 percent use GPS to track company vehicles. About 75 percent of companies monitor workers' Web site connections, and 65 percent use software to block connections to inappropriate Web sites. Fifty-one percent of the companies surveyed use video monitoring to counter theft, violence and sabotage, up from 33 percent in 2001. "The number of companies that use video surveillance to track employees' on-the-job performance has also increased," the report said, "with 10 percent now videotaping selected job categories and 6 percent videotaping all employees.

Anyone for Tennis!

Wimbledon 2005 starts 20th June.

When June arrives our thoughts turn to tennis and the Wimbledon tennis championships is one one of the most important tournaments in the world. Is Roger Federer going to make this his third win or is 2005 Tim Henman's turn to take the title.

For all your Wimbledon information visit www.wimbledon.org

Brief History of Tennis

Although the origins of tennis are not clear, many experts believe tennis, then called lawn tennis, was invented in 1873 by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield, a British army officer. Although Wingfield claimed that he modeled the game, which he called Sphairistike (Greek, "playing at ball") after an ancient Greek game, many authorities believe that he adapted the principles of the popular English games of real tennis, squash rackets, and badminton for outdoor play. Early players preferred to call Wingfield's game tennis-on-the-lawn, or lawn tennis. The first world amateur championships were held at the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, England (men, 1877; women, 1884).

Summer Solstice 21st June

Solstice, Midsummer or Litha means a stopping or standing still of the sun. It is the longest day of the year and the time when the sun is at its maximum elevation.

This date has had spiritual significance for thousands of years as humans have been amazed by the great power of the sun. The Celts celebrated with bonfires that would add to the sun's energy, Christians placed the feast of St John the Baptist towards the end of June and it is also the festival of Li, the Chinese Goddess of light.

Like other religious groups, Pagans are in awe of the incredible strength of the sun and the divine powers that create life. For Pagans this spoke in the Wheel of the Year is a significant point. The Goddess took over the earth from the horned God at the beginning of spring and she is now at the height of her power and fertility. For some Pagans the Summer Solstice marks the marriage of the God and Goddess and see their union as the force that creates the harvest's fruits.

This is a time to celebrate growth and life but for Pagans, who see balance in the world and are deeply aware of the ongoing shifting of the seasons it is also time to acknowledge that the sun will now begin to decline once more towards winter.

When celebrating midsummer Pagans draw on diverse traditions. In England thousands of Pagans and non-Pagans go to places of ancient religious sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury to see the sun rising on the first morning of summer. Many more Pagans hold small ceremonies in open spaces, everywhere from gardens to woodlands.
